Abused, abandoned, neglected children, and children going through difficult situations, need love, security and a safe environment. Connie Maxwell Children's Home in Greenwood has been filling those needs since 1892. Today, eighty children reside in ten family-styled homes on the main campus in Greenwood. Mickey Hurry is the Campus Administrator. An additional eight children live at the Cooper Nixon Shelter Care, which is nestled on the farm that Connie Maxwell continues to maintain. Brian Patterson oversees the work at Cooper Nixon - Cooper Nixon Shelter and Special Services.
The children, from elementary school to middle school to high school, are involved in public education and are encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities. It is our goal to give children in need the best of care and that is why all of Connie Maxwell's programs are accredited by the EAGLE Accreditation Commission. Connie Maxwell's goal is to reunite children with their families whenever possible; therefore, our practice is to have the family or custodian live as close as possible, as we serve the residents of South Carolina. Joyce Decker is our Intake Administrator on the Greenwood Campus and she can be reached by calling 1 (864) 942-1400 or 1 (800) 868-2624. You may write us at P.O. Box 1178, Greenwood, SC 29648-1178.
It is true that Connie Maxwell cares for children but not without the kindness of those who give prayer, time and the financial resources needed to operate this vital ministry. If you would like to be involved, contact our Director of Volunteer Services: Polly Davis at Connie Maxwell Children's Home by calling 1 (864) 942-1400 or 1 (800) 868-2624.
